Harmony in Diversity
This interactive 3D project, developed in Unity, explores religious harmony in Indonesia by bringing the country’s six officially recognized religions into a single immersive virtual environment. Rather than presenting the subject through a conventional linear film, the project invites users to actively explore, interact, and discover the story for themselves.
Users can enter different houses of worship and experience each space through interactive elements. As they approach specific areas, proximity-based triggers activate narrated information and authentic soundscapes associated with each environment, including religious music and other audio elements. Additional interactions, such as lighting incense, encourage users to engage with the spaces rather than simply observe them.
Markus developed the project by combining storytelling, 3D environment design, interaction design, and technical implementation in Unity. He designed the experience around user exploration, using interactive triggers, spatial audio, and environmental details to transform information about Indonesia’s religious diversity into an experience that audiences can actively navigate.
Beyond demonstrating Markus’s technical skills in Unity, the project explores how immersive media can be used for education and cultural understanding. By placing different religious spaces within one shared virtual world, the experience encourages audiences to learn about religious diversity through exploration, interaction, and respectful engagement.
