BanKe or Bank Keliling
BanKe or Bank Keliling (2019) is a comedic short film about a mobile money lender who provides small loans to people in a village, only to discover that everyone seems to mysteriously disappear whenever it is time to collect their repayments. Built around absurd situations and exaggerated character behavior, the film transforms the familiar tension surrounding debt into a chaotic and humorous story about avoidance, excuses, and the fear of facing someone to whom money is owed.
Much of the comedy comes from the contrast between the lender’s determination to collect the money and the increasingly ridiculous ways people attempt to avoid him. Through this simple premise, the film uses humor to portray a recognizable social situation while creating an energetic story driven by its characters and ensemble performances.
Markus worked as the Talent Coordinator, managing one of the largest groups of performers he had coordinated at that point in his filmmaking experience. His responsibilities involved organizing and communicating with the cast, coordinating their participation during production, and helping ensure that the large group of performers was prepared and available according to the needs of each scene. The project strengthened his experience in managing talent and supporting the logistical demands of a production with a large ensemble cast.
