HAPPINESS

This 3D short film, created entirely in Unreal Engine, explores the meaning of happiness through cinematic storytelling within a virtual environment. Markus independently developed the project from concept to completion, writing the screenplay, directing the film, and editing the final piece while building its visual world through real-time 3D technology.

The project allowed Markus to experiment with virtual cinematography, particularly camera movement and composition, including dynamic rotations, tracking shots, and cinematic framing. He also developed environmental elements such as simulated ocean waves, natural sunlight, changing atmospheric conditions, and an evening sky filled with stars. To bring a human presence into the virtual world, Markus created and integrated a MetaHuman character, using digital performance and environmental storytelling to strengthen the film’s sense of realism.

Beyond demonstrating his technical exploration of Unreal Engine, the film uses its virtual environment to communicate a simple idea: happiness is not defined by extraordinary places or beautiful landscapes alone, but by the meaningful connections and people with whom those moments are shared.
